An Ancient Art & Practice That Can Reveal the Possibilities of Your Life

Spiritual direction at its best is the practice of looking at your life without the distorting lenses of “isms” or ideologies, seeing what is true in and of itself, and learning to engage life justly and with compassion. Despite the title, a spiritual director doesn’t direct your life but helps you discern the direction toward which a well-examined life is calling you.

Welcome Unitarian Universalists

BFISChaliceMy name is Phillip Lund, and I’m a spiritual director. I’m also a Unitarian Universalist minister, which helps me understand the spiritual independence upon which our free and responsible search for truth and meaning is built.

compassIndependence doesn’t mean going it alone, however. Throughout our lives the paths of our spiritual journeys converge and diverge countless times with the paths of others. Spiritual teacher Eknath Easwaran put it this way: “The widest possibilities for spiritual growth lie in the give-and-take of everyday relationships.”

The possibility of that spiritual growth is why we gather together on Sunday mornings for worship, why we meet on Wednesday evenings for small group ministry, and why, thanks to programs like UUWellspring and groups like The Unitarian Universalist Spiritual Director’s Network, more and more Unitarian Universalists are discovering the benefits of spiritual direction.

The spiritual life does not remove us from the world, but takes us more deeply into it.

Whatever your reason for visiting, I’m here to help you discern the direction toward which your well-examined life is calling you, to find the possibilities in the give-and-take of your everyday relationships.
